A Decade with The Roots as Video Artist
Role: Video Artist
Creating video art as The Roots’ video artist truly means getting to work with some of the world’s most incredible musicians of our time. Under the amazing guidance of Questlove and Black Thought, I have had the pleasure to collaborate not only with The Roots, but some of the most creatively influential musicians in hip hop of all time. The Roots Picnic, held in Philadelphia PA each year, has been my main collaborative touch point as I loop in with this incredible group each year. The thing about The Roots is that, unlike many bands of this time, The Roots puts on a truly live performance each and every time— meaning No Click Track. For those unfamiliar with the term, the click track is a guiding timeline that large performances often tie all of their performance elements too—where musicians and crew all lock in to a set time for all things to happen in tandem. With The Roots— a live performance is truly that — LIVE. As a video artist who specializes in creating visuals in the moment, I do not take for granted this truly LIVE collaboration with this incredible group. A huge shout out to Production and Lighting Designer Robert Bloom, who brings his exquisite eye to all production and lighting design for The Roots shows—a true artist and visual collaborator in his own right. Below are just a few of the moments we’ve created together as a band and I look forward to it all, each and every time.
