NYU Communications Initiatives

Role: Digital Media Strategist and Video Producer
As an alumna, returning to NYU years later to join its University Relations and Public Affairs division was a full circle moment for me. I felt I could finally give back to the university that nourished me as an NYU Tisch School of the Arts Film/TV Production undergraduate. The Media Production team was a lean and mean all-female team, and we took on numerous communication initiatives, both global and local, during my 3 year tenure. As the all university division, our group was the central hub for all things related to communications for NYU. Whether it was All-University commencements, admissions materials, individual school programs, documentaries, one-off events, Presidential announcements, and communication alignment among our three schools in New York, Abu Dhabi, and Shanghai, our team developed robust communication strategies and a multitude of deliverables across various timelines to best deliver the messages to the NYU community.

The Work

Meet NYU Marketing and Communication Campaign

In partnership with NYU Admissions, the Meet NYU campaign was created to build momentum around the launch of Meet NYU, an online dynamic content site that brings stories and videos from across the NYU community to potential students as well as current students. A multi-pronged campaign, our team created graphics and short form videos directly for the Meet NYU website. I also participated as a panelist at the 1st annual Storytelling Summit event that culminated in the Meet NYU site going live.

NYU All-University and Individual School Commencement Ceremonies

Each year, NYU commemorates its graduates through commencement ceremonies. A large undertaking involving numerous teams, our division produced all recorded elements for the live event. Here are a few examples of how that work coalesced each year. A separate page on my portfolio is dedicated to the All-University 2021 Virtual Commencement.

NYU Media Training and Professional Development Initiatives

As a full service communication agency, our division consistently found ways to help our clients present themselves in the best possible ways by providing information and tools that would allow them to succeed in any communication setting. As my department’s production expert, I had the pleasure to offer various forms of media training including the Stepping Up Your Online Presence workshop. Open to all administrators and board members at NYU, the workshop honed in on best practices for presenting yourself on camera and on video meetings. I also provided written resources, decks, and consultations as part of this multi-faceted approach to media training at NYU, along with one on one sessions with members of senior leadership and other interviewees prior to shoots.

NYU Stonewall @ 50 Initiative

In 2019, numerous NYU programs, exhibits, and performances celebrated and commemorated the 1969 Stonewall Uprising anniversary in a campaign of events that the University called Stonewall@50. The events and exhibits focused on various aspects of LGBTQ+ history and activism. As part of that initiative, our team produced the Stonewall at 50 Documentary, interviewing LGBTQ activists who were present and weaving archival imagery and footage to unearth NYU’s involvement with the LGBTQ+ during the time of the riots.

Produced by my Media Production team at NYU, the NYU Stonewall at 50 Documentary was screened at multiple coordinated events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots.
